The Town Crier on the "Plapperstein"
As late as 1960, a town crier would announce community news to the people from the Plapperstein in Dorf Tirol/Merano.
The municipal leadership commemorates this centuries-old tradition by commissioning the bronze sculpture, which now stands there—on the Plapperstein. It was cast by the Dirler Art Foundry in Marling.
It was unveiled to the public during an inauguration ceremony in December 2023.
Technique: Woodwork using a chainsaw, bronze casting, patinated.
Bishop Juan Rodrigés de Fonseca
Bishop of Burgos from 1514 onward, he served as a diplomat for the Catholic Monarchs of Spain and was responsible for the discovery, conquest, and colonization of the New World. Even before Magellan, inspired by Amerigo Vespucci, he had planned a sea route that would allow one to circumnavigate the New World and reach the Spice Islands directly.

Flightradar 8.484
Refers to the number of times airplanes currently circle the globe each day.
On its first voyage, the Magellan expedition took nearly three years (departing on September 20, 1519, from Sanlúcar de Barrameda and arriving there on September 6, 1522). In 2022, approximately 210,000 airplanes that take off in a single day—when their total flight kilometers are added up—will circle the Earth 8,484 times.

Artistic Interior Design 2025
Reflections on the Sculptural Design:
The Empty Tomb according to Luke 24 …5.. : “Why do you seek the living among the dead? 6 He is not here, but has risen. …”
At the front of the viewing room, a staircase leads down into the burial chamber. Each step is different; the distances between them vary, as do the angles between them. The stone has been rolled away—the tomb is empty. Framed by the core of the message, the Gospel according to Luke.
In light of this, Christians may hope that the one lying in state has already risen from the dead. But it can also be perceived as a metaphor for our life’s journey with all its different stages, at the end of which light without shadow awaits.
Aluminum, with ash and charcoal as the surface—“Remember, O man, that you are dust, and to dust you shall return”—Ash Wednesday.
The asymmetrical space, designed by architect Wilfried Menz, allows for a unique range of forms in the interior design. The installation seeks to address the subtle emotional state of the bereaved; may it offer comfort, helping them transcend their unbearable grief to a higher plane.
